National Geographic TOPO! Explorer
TOPO! Explorer Works Alongside TOPO! State Series and Weekend Explorer 3D Series:
The TOPO! State Series and Weekend Explorer 3D products continue to provide the best value for people who are serious map users and outdoor enthusiasts, with a cost as low as five cents per USGS Quad map. Users who purchase these products have the option to upgrade to the TOPO! Explorer application at no charge to take advantage of the sharing community and other features (see Upgrade Options below).
Users who desire to add aerial photography to their library will also want TOPO! Explorer. They can add aerials to their existing map collection or download SuperQuads of new areas.
A Typical Use Scenario:
A customer buys TOPO! for his home state, because that's where he does most of his hiking and exploring. But he'll be taking a trip to a specific area in another state. With TOPO! Explorer he can select only the maps needed for this trip, without having to buy another full TOPO! State product.
Or, say that the user is going exploring to a specific area covered by her TOPO! State, but desires greater detail and aerial images. She can use TOPO! Explorer to purchase SuperQuads that include aerial images for the target area.
Upgrade Paths for Existing TOPO! Users:
National Geographic has a history of offering a simple and fair upgrade path for existing TOPO! Users. TOPO! Explorer offers unique innovations, which will be desirable to new and existing customers alike. In all cases, the best path for a consumer is to purchase the retail version of TOPO! Explorer or TOPO! Explorer Deluxe. Other upgrade paths are:
1. You Own TOPO! State with Version 4.0 or Higher and/or Weekend Explorer 3D:
  • You can download the TOPO! Explorer application from the National Geographic website at no cost, but without map credits. You will retain access to the topographic maps that you already own; or
  • Purchase TOPO! Explorer or TOPO! Explorer Deluxe and receive 25 free map credits, plus 1:100,000 scale USGS maps of the entire USA with the purchase of the Deluxe edition, and retain access to the topographic maps that you already own. You can use the map credits to add aerial photography to existing maps, or obtain SuperQuads for existing or additional areas.
2. You Own Back Roads Explorer 3D:
  • You can download the TOPO! Explorer application from the National Geographic website at no cost, but without map credits. You will retain access to the 1:100,000 scale USGS maps that came with Back Roads Explorer; or
  • Purchase TOPO! Explorer and receive 25 free map credits, and you retain access to the 1:100,000 scale USGS maps that came with Back Roads Explorer. You should not purchase TOPO! Explorer Deluxe.
3. You Own TOPO! State Series or GPS USA Products with Versions 2.6 - 3.x:
  • You can upgrade your legacy products by calling National Geographic directly at (800) 962-1643. After upgrading, you can purchase and use TOPO! Explorer and TOPO! Explorer Deluxe.
